Buying advice

Hi all,
I am finally getting round to buying my first MX5. Over the years I have owned all sorts TVR's MG's SLK's etc but never an MX! so where do I start? I have a budget of £8 to £10k sterling but the model range and trims is huge, also as my Motorbikes hog the garage it's going to have to live outside. Any pointers would be great, do soft tops actually keep water out? (my MG's leaked like sieves) or am I better with a hard top? which engine? which trim/model is best and what do i need to look out for? I ,look forward to your opinions, I would love to know with the benefit of hindsight what current owners would have bought
Thanks
Mart

Hi: martin stainforth... Last fall I finally took the plunge. I found a 2020 MX5 RF. GT. w/ everything as I would have ordered it. It was within a whisker of being sent to the auto auction by the dealer as no one wanted to buy it. In the nick of time they turned it around and brought it back. 3 yrs. old with 10,000 km. so just like new. My banker was only to happy to extend me the funds... but my wife not so!!! After a year of ownership she is resigned to it. Being a small car I didn't have to throw out much junk for it to fit with my wife's car in the 2 car garage. To take care of the top drains I bought a 60" fridge drain cleaner brush to eliminate any water intrusion into the cabin, but the car doesn't see much rain or snow. Alf
